GENTING DREAM CRUISE

Flora Isabelle

You guys might have already seen on my Instagram recently that I was on board the Genting Dream Cruise and in fact, I liked it so much - I went on it twice! Over two consecutive weekends!

The first was with the family (with Smith's family in tow too)...

And the second time round was with the fambam aka Keira (or better known as Sononui), Zach and Parker!

Although both weekends were spent on board the same cruise liner with the same itinerary, the experience was vastly different. I had so much fun on both trips both as a mother (though the one who had the most fun was bubs haha) and as a swinging single on a friends-only trip, I can't decide which experience I like better!

First up, the geeky facts.

The Genting Dream is huuuuggggeeeee - it has a gross tonnage of 151,300 tons and size-wise, it is 335m long, 40m wide and 18 decks tall.

This translates to 142 elegantly furnished suites and with over 35 restaurant and bar concepts including the first-ever Zouk club at sea.

Yes, the Zouk we grew up with at Jiak Kim? You can now party on a cruise, how cool is that really?!

THE BEEF WAS SO GOOD!

Food wise, I highly recommend their signature Japanese specialty restaurant, Umi Uma. It was a feast for both our taste buds and eyes as the chef put on a very entertaining performance while cooking our food.

Nate was very entertained by him haha.

Expectations vs Reality when it comes to taking a family photo these days.

If you like Chinese food, then you'll be glad to know that the Dream Dining Room offers buffets daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner - yes, you can eat as much as you'd like.

Please order several rounds of their siu yok (roast pork), you won't regret it.

I also recommend you check out the local delights at Blue Lagoon. It's opened 24H so you can pop by for supper at 3am (which is what I did). You see, my in-laws are regulars of the Genting Dream (you can find them on board practically every week) and they are always raving about their char kway tiao and salted egg fish skin, I felt like I NEED to try them out no matter what. And I'm glad I did (even though my face had to literally heavily pay the price the next morning with water retention)...

Which explains why we ended up taking such shots where you can't see how puffy my face really is. BUT IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT I TELL YOU.

(I ended up dapao-ing the char kway tiao home for the hubs on my second trip there without him cause he was missing it too lol)

Srsly, everywhere is just so intricate and IG-worthy on board the ship.

Outdoor movie deck by day...

And by night.

It was really very magical.

ONE OF MY FAVOURITE SHOTS EVER WITH MY LOVE

Other entertainment include concerts, bowling alley, live music performances, arcade (did you see my IG stories of Zach trying to para para lol?) and their many live shows.

They weren't awarded The Best Cruise Line – Entertainment at the Travel Weekly Asia Reader’s Choice Awards 2017 for nothing.

For the adventurous, an endless assortment of fun activities await you. And by that I mean giant waterslides, rope course and even a rock climbing wall and many more. The Genting Dream features the world's longest thrilling hangover zip line!

And as if all that isn't fun enough, you can choose to disembark the ship when it docks for even more fun. Depending on your itinerary, you'll get to dock at different ports such as Penang, Phuket, Langkawai etc and for my trips, I was on the 2-NIGHT BINTAN ISLAND WEEKEND GETAWAY.

Docking at Bintan means you can get to check out Treasure Bay Bintan, an adventure playground with its manmade lagoon equal to 50 Olympic-size swimming pools. The crystal clear waters here are perfect for snorkeling, giant water slide and paddle boats.

Other fun activities include off-road ATVs or you can check out the local safari park too where you can get up close and personal with orangutans and komodo dragons.

I'll be honest though, despite all these pictures of me having fun at the beach (which I did!), what really caught my attention were the spa and massage salons haha. I was on mommy leave after all, right?!

Golfers will be glad to know that you can also hit the greens if you'd like.

In summary, I like how the cruise makes it very easy for us to enjoy a Bintan getaway.

On the last morning, I got up early for sunrise and was treated to such glorious views.

Then it's home sweet home.

One of my favourite parts about the cruise was the views we could get (this was shot right from my balcony!) By the way, more than 70% of the cabins are balcony staterooms which means you can expect really awesome views. Nate was SO excited when he woke up in the morning and saw the opem sea right from our bedroom window... he was almost hyperventilating lol.

All in all, it was a very relaxing experience and I would love to be back - perhaps on a 5-night adventure next time?

(So I can eat that char kway tiao a few more times HAHA).
