Hong Kong, 6 December 2018 – Genting Cruise Lines will invest USD50 million to transform the much loved SuperStar Virgo into Explorer Dream to further expand the fleet for the fastest growing cruise brand in Asia.
Since Dream Cruises premiered its first ship two years ago, the brand has garnered numerous international accolades including “Best Cruise Line – Cuisine”, “Best Cruise Line – Entertainment” and “Best New Ship: World Dream” at the Travel Weekly Asia Readers’ Choice Awards 2018, Star Performer Top Ten rating for Genting Dream and World Dream in the Berlitz Cruising and Cruise Guide 2018, Best Cruise Operator at the TTG Travel Awards 2018 and placing in the top 5 mid & large class cruise lines in the Conde Nast Traveller The Gold List 2018.
The unprecedented popularity and resounding success of Dream Cruises has seen its capacity double in size from the inaugural sailing of Genting Dream in 2016 to the christening of World Dream in Hong Kong in 2017, and will further increase as Explorer Dream debuts in 2019.
The German-engineered 75,338-gross ton, 1,852 passenger cruise liner will begin operation in spring 2019 in the role of pathfinder for the brand’s global aspirations. Explorer Dream will strengthen the Dream Cruises’ brand in East and North China with homeports in Shanghai and Tianjin during Spring/Summer 2019 with a selection of voyages of various durations to Japan before relocating to Australia and New Zealand for the winter season.

In addition to enhancements to the physical environment of The Palace, Explorer Dream will debut upgraded exclusive new benefits for guests to enjoy including a dedicated Palace Kids’ Program for kids 2yrs to 12yrs old, “The Connoisseurs Circle” bespoke enrichment program of talks and events, city transfer service, complimentary shore excursions and more.
A generous variety of culinary options will also be available to cater to every taste – from inspired Asian flavours to exquisite Western delicacies. Acclaimed Australian Chef Mark Best will extend his influence on to Explorer Dream with his Seafood Grill by Mark Best serving up the ocean’s bounty in a spectacular al fresco setting. Signature Dream dining favorites will also take pride of place on the new ship including Umi Uma for Japanese delights, Silk Road for traditional Chinese fare, Blue Lagoon for Southeast Asian comfort food and Palm Court for informal refreshments and breath-taking views. For adventurous foodies, the all new Mozzarella Ristorante e Pizzeria will tantalize with a modern fusion of classic Italian dishes and pizzas with a Japanese twist.
Leisure and entertainment options will appeal to a broad range of multi-generational guests from the youngest members of the family through to the golden-agers. A new Little Dreamers Club will feed children's imagination in a kids-only area complete with games, workshops, costume parties and even a DJ booth while teenagers can work off some excess energy in the Action Zone, a multipurpose lounge featuring game consoles. Guests will be able to enjoy all the new facilities and premium accommodations on Explorer Dream when she makes her debut in Shanghai and Tianjin for the 2019 Spring/Summer season beginning 10 April and 1 July respectively. Through a variety of 3, 4 and 5 night itineraries, Explorer Dream will transport guests as the fastest cruise ship in Asia to destinations both beautiful and cosmopolitan in ever-popular Japan including Osaka, Naha, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Sakaiminato, Kagoshima, Beppu and Nagasaki.
Taking the first step to evolve Dream Cruises into “Asia’s Global Cruise Line” by sailing outside Asian waters, in Autumn/Winter of 2019, Explorer Dream will homeport in Sydney and Auckland beginning 27 October where she will embark on 21 seven-night weekly itineraries highlighting “Queensland and the Barrier Reef”, “Tasmania Island and Melbourne” and “North and South New Zealand”.
