Singapore, 19 January 2017 - Dream Cruises, announces its inaugural vessel, Genting Dream, to be home ported year-round in Singapore starting from 3 December 2017. This marks a first for Singapore to host a brand-new and large-scale 151,300-tonne cruise ship year-round.
Genting Dream is a floating, luxurious integrated resort, designed in a bespoke fashion for the Asian market. Built in Germany last year, she will soon be a Singapore and ASEAN icon, calling at more than 10 ports in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam during 2018.
“We are truly excited to deploy Genting Dream in Singapore, a popular and well developed travel hub for the Asian region with an excellent cruise and tourism infrastructure. Singapore’s prime geographic location also makes it the ideal homeport Genting Dream to cruise to popular as well as new ASEAN destinations,” said Mr. Thatcher Brown, President of Dream Cruises. “We are pleased to support Singapore’s steadfast commitment to the tourism industry, as we cater to a growing number of sophisticated Singaporean and broader Asian Pacific fly-cruise vacationers.”
Mr Lionel Yeo, Chief Executive, Singapore Tourism Board, said: “We warmly welcome year-round homeporting of the Genting Dream in Singapore. This historic deployment underscores the potential of Southeast Asia as one of the world’s prime cruising destinations. As the ASEAN lead coordinator for cruise development, Singapore will continue working closely with our neighbours to grow the cruise industry in this region.”
Singapore’s excellent infrastructure reflected in its outstanding cruise centre facilities and strategic location. Known as the gateway to Southeast Asia is ideal for the development of exciting itineraries that can reach multiple countries with convenient five-night cruises. Singapore will open up new ports-of-call for Genting Dream guests to experience the tropical and urban attractions in the most exciting Asian destinations, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
Beginning 3rd December to the end of March, Dream Cruises will offer appealing range of 2 Nights week-end cruises and alternating 5 Nights Sunday cruises from Singapore to destinations in the Straits of Malacca and in the Java Seas. The 5 night Straits of Malacca Cruise will feature the popular Kuala Lumpur-Penang-Phuket itinerary to the launch of a brand new and highly anticipated 5 night cruise in the Java Sea to Surabaya and North Bali, capable only with the high speed design of the Genting Dream, which can sail at over 23 knots. Passengers can combine the Straits of Malacca and Java Sea cruises for a 12-night cruise experience, with the option of spending the weekend in between either onboard the ship or in a hotel in Singapore.
From April to October 2018, new itineraries will offer new destinations in the South China Sea and the Java Sea, giving passengers another new reason to cruise.
The significant growth in the Asian cruise industry over the recent years has presented new opportunities for the region, and Dream Cruises aims to be a pacesetter in Singapore by being the first cruise liner to offer inspirational luxury, which is Asian at heart and international in spirit.
Domestically, the number of Singapore citizens departing by sea in 2015 was 1,753,954, up 12% compared to 2012, which accounts for 19.2% of total outbound travellers in Singapore1. With an absolute increase of 35 percent in port calls over the 2013-2016 period, Singapore had a combined annual growth rate of 10.6 percent. Genting Dream will increase available cruise days in Singapore by over 20% in 2018 and will be a boon to the ASEAN Tourism Industry. She is well poised to cater to domestic cruise travellers as well as the inbound fly-cruise market.
Dream Cruises guests who embark on Genting Dream in Singapore will not only experience the cultural attractions of nearby Southeast Asia destinations, but they will also enjoy a new “integrated resort” experience at sea with the luxurious comforts, thrilling shows and numerous dining options. The successful product and service breakthroughs achieved by Genting Dream sets the pace for the advent of Dream Cruises’ second 151,300 tonne cruise ship “World Dream” which is currently being built at Meyer Wert shipyard and is scheduled for its inaugural sailing in November 2017 from Singapore to Hong Kong. The vision of Dream Cruises to be a distinctively Asian at heart and international in spirit cruise brand will be heralded in the banner year of 2017 when the two cruise ships of Genting Dream and World Dream will both be deployed in key Asia home and destination ports.
Genting Hong Kong, Dream Cruises parent company, has led the development of an ongoing commitment to the Asia cruise industry by introducing Star Cruises in Singapore 23 years ago. Genting Cruises with the two brands – Dream Cruises and Star Cruises - will offer the largest cruise capacity days in Singapore and Asia by the end of 2017.
